Dutch DJ, Tony Junior started out as a drummer in a band, but then in 2010, made his debut in EDM with the release of his first single “Loesje”, which was a collaboration with Nicholas Nox. Since then, Tony has only gotten bigger and bigger, having already played at some of the world’s biggest festivals, plus he’s also worked with a few big names from the dance music industry, including Tiësto, with which he’s created his biggest hit up to date “Get Down”.
However, he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Right now, he is on a tour around the world, after he dropped a banging 3-track EP on Spinnin’ Records, that was very well received by his fans. We’ve had the opportunity to chat with Tony for a little bit, so if you want to know more details about his EP or his upcoming plans, check out our interview below!
Hello, Tony. Where does EDM Nations find you today?
Hey guys, thanks for having me! At the moment I’m on tour in the USA. I just did a show in San Diego and San Francisco and am about to fly to Atlantic City.
So, let’s start. You’ve recently released a brand new EP, called „It’s A Copy”. Can you give us a few more details about this production?
This EP has 3 club tracks. I made one of them together with Tommie Sunshine. Tommie was the guy who helped me a lot when I just started, so I wanted to do a collab with him. The collab became FDAU. There is also a collab on there with a buddy of mine, Maddix. The last track is ‘It’s a Copy’. I played all of them live and the crowd really seems to like them!
What was the biggest challenge in putting together and releasing this EP? How did you overcome it?
I’m sitting in the studio a lot, working on new stuff. At one point I had a lot of tracks ready to release, so I went over to Spinnin’ and they said; why don’t we turn it into an EP? There was a lot of hard work that went into it, but I’m really happy with the end result. The EP is also a free download on Spinnin’ Premium which I like because I can give some music to my fans who love it.
What were some of your influences for the EP?
I have a lot of influences. Most of the time I’m just playing around in the studio trying to find new sounds and new stuff that I can use. Once I get a sound that I like, I work with it and then after a while I’ve got a track ;). It’s always difficult to come up with something totally new, I think everyone is searching for that new sound.
Also, do you have a favorite track from it or is each song special in its own way?
All of them are working pretty good on the dance floor, but if I have to choose it will be ‘It’s a Copy’. The melody has already been used by several artists, that’s why I put the vocal “I know it’s a copy, but I like this sound”. I wanted to give my own little twist to it.
Aside from this EP, what else is coming up for you in the following months?
I’m working on a lot of stuff. I work with several singers and try to make something new. I can’t give you too much information, but keep an eye open and you guys will see for yourselves 😉 .
Additionally, we’d like to know: what was the happiest moment for you in 2016 up until now?
I already had an amazing year, I played some amazing festivals and shows around the world. But one of the happiest things would be the launch of Pokémon GO. I’m a big Pokémon fan 😛 .
Do you have anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Thank you all for the support, and thanks for coming to my shows! I’m releasing a Tony Junior sample pack soon, and I want to help out the upcoming producers. A lot of things are going to happen, so keep an eye open ?
